He was born on January 27, 1832 in Daresbury. He wrote about 250 scientific works in the field of mathematics, but his novel Alice in Wonderland and its sequel Through the Looking Glass brought him fame. Both books, mixing fairy tale and realistic elements, gained great popularity among both children and adults. He died on January 14, 1898 in Guildford.
