Sontag was the soprano of choice for the soprano solo in the world premiere of Beethovens 9th Symphony and in his Missa Solemnis. Sontag also created the title role in Euryanthe, opera by Carl Maria von Weber, later in 1854 Sontag sang Mexicos national anthem for the first time.
